"TYRAN" Wrocławski Teatr Pantomimy im.H.Tomaszewskiego
15.10 saturday 19.00 URSYNOWSKIE CENTRUM KULTURY "ALTERNATYWY", WARSaw, poland
Celebrated this year, the 100th anniversary of the release of the film “Nosferatu - A Symphony of Horror”, directed by F.W. Murnau became a pretext for the artists to make creative use of the character of the vampire Nosferatu and to explore the phenomenon of tyranny in contemporary theater.
The starting point of the work on “Tyrant” was the problem of using other people for one's own purposes, exploiting their energy and ideas. The creators want to make fun of the dependencies that exist not only in the world of theater, but also in any closed world.
The performance focuses on the relationship between director and actors, between playwright and director, actors and audience, etc. The character of Nosferatu is a symbol of the tyrant-director in the show, sucking the creative energy out of the actors. Vampirism is framed here in the context of a universality of a certain desire: the desire to transcend one's own mortality, the desire to have power, to take a lot from others and not to pay the consequences.

Wrocław Mime Theatre (Wrocławski Teatr Pantomimy) was founded by Henryk Tomaszewski in 1956 as a Pantomime Studio at National Dramatic Theatres in Wrocław. For a few decades now, it has been one of the most important mime groups in Europie. The group creator looked for inspiration in literature and sources and forms of theatre in silent film, psychology, as well as in the essence of the movement itself: its motility and texture. After the master’s death, the development and direction of the theatre have been taken on by the artistic directors: Elżbieta Czerczuk, Aleksander Sobiszewski, Marek Oleksy, Zbigniew Szymczyk, Leszk Bzdyl. Since 2022, Agnieszka Charkot has been the director of WMT.
