What is love when the chemistry of falling in love disappears? What can jealousy lead to and how to set the limits of freedom in a relationship of two people? When does suspicion turns into paranoia? The answers to these and more other questions are seeked by the artists from Poland and Germany, Wojciech Rotowski and Kerstin Hurbain, in the physical theatre show “Aranea”. They examine the attachment to the other person on both emotional and physical level. Inspired by the Japanese art of bondage called Kinbaku Shibari, the creators of the show present new possibilities of using rope on stage. They redefine the art of bondage itself and present it in an entirely unprecedented way.
Using the techniques of illusion theatre, shadow theatre, mime and dance, they create original and unique physical theatre style, the common point of which is one story. The story of obsession leading to madness, in which the border between delusion and the reality is blurred. How strong can an attachment to another person be and do unbreakable ties exist? “Aranea” is a search of answers to questions about love, freedom and trust.
