Hinterland
A glimpse into the wilderness of our minds – a landscape where we like to store our exaggerated shadows. Hinterland is a performance emerging from our present time, crafted in a timeless style. It explores painful, collective themes with tragicomic tones, painting a picture of a community enduring harsh conditions in a no-man's land, blind to the consequences of their actions. Somewhere between life and death, they curse the forces of nature, reaching out for mercy and freedom. Hinterland is created using Corporeal Mime, a poetic and finely crafted form of physical theater, rarely seen in Scandinavia. The starting point for the dramaturgy was a collection of bleak short stories by Samuel Beckett, written just after World War II. In the spirit of Beckett, the characters in Hinterland are both cruel and tender, desperate and pompous, rebellious in their smallness.

Kauri Honkakoski Company is a theater group based in Helsinki, Finland. Their artistic roots lie in Corporeal Mime, and their performances explore universal human themes through a rich physicality and visual metaphors. Their previous critically acclaimed production, The Desk, won the Scotsman Fringe First Award at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2019.
